Can roots grow back after a root canal treatment?

root canal treatment

A fully developed natural tooth root does not regenerate after undergoing root canal treatment. In this procedure, the dentist carefully removes the infected or inflamed pulp from inside the tooth's root canals, which are narrow passages that house the nerve and blood vessels. After this vital pulp is extracted, the dentist meticulously cleans the canals to eliminate any bacteria, debris, and damaged tissue.

Once cleaned, the canals are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent future infection. Although the tooth can continue to serve its purpose in chewing and biting after the treatment, it is important to note that the original root structure does not regrow or repair itself.

At Uru Dental Clinic, our dentist can assess the treated tooth and explain how to protect it from reinfection or fracture.
